How to Create Creativity
Hint: You Already Know How.
“Creativity is intelligence having fun.”
- Albert Einstein
For years I said, “I’m not a creative person myself, but I appreciate the creativity of others.”
This thought is utter nonsense.
I’m not saying that we all have an opera inside us waiting to be written or a priceless work of art waiting to be sculpted, but we are all born creative. Not just in this modern era but from some of the earliest days of our human ancestors. We have created from the beginning. There was something that moved us to record what we saw. We developed tools and, eventually, language.
One could say that creativity is fundamental to who we are as a species.
When you look up the word creativity in the Cambridge Dictionary, you see this definition:
the ability to produce original and unusual ideas, or to make something new or imaginative.
We can take this in two different ways. Creativity could be making something new that has never been done before in any ideation, or it could literally be taking something–a thing or an idea, in whatever form they might be — and making them new. It is your thoughts, experiences and emotions about the subject that makes it something new.
